I TOO thought of Deep Purple for adverb but then decided that "deep" is an adjective. I mean "deeply" is the adverb form right ie it is "Truly Madly Deeply"! You can have adjectives that modify adjectives I *think* but I guess you could say "I swam deep".

I DO NOT KNOW LINGUISTICS TAUGHT ME NOTHING.

Also, "They Might Be Giants" !! Good call! We are the only people who knew that was a movie first! (I bet they both just got it from the same poem or whatever, but still.)

Actually, I think in "I swam deep," deep could be a prepositional phrase...
I always thought of Deep Purple as being a kind of purple, and therefore an adjective. I think even Deeply Purple would still be an adjective (it's describing the adjective!). Adverbs have to describe the verb, right? So Purple would have to be a verb in some sense...
