If you don't have a Kiva account already, now's the time to get one - they're offering a free $25 loan when you're invited by a friend. I'm inviting you.
I love Kiva and I loan all the time. If you're not familiar with it, it's a really cool organization which allows you to make microloans to struggling entrepreneurs and working people of all kinds all over the world. (Sample loan: $25 to help a storekeeper in Peru buy supplies. Or help a teacher in Nigeria build a room on her home.) When the money is paid back, you can reloan it, or withdraw it. It's a great way to ensure your money is useful to someone who really needs it, instead of just sitting in your bank account, and you can use the same money over and over again to fund many different projects in succession. It feels like making a real difference because you are helping to improve people's lives and make them more self-sufficient.
